You packed everything, from your favorite sport jerseys to your beloved teddy bear you received in the fourth grade.

Even when you’ve gone through the must-haves on your moving checklist countless number of times, there is always the feeling that you still forgot to do something.

Focus on the packing. In the meantime, we’ve assembled a checklist of things to do before moving.

Cancel Recurring Charges

The last thing you want is to do is sign up for a gym in your new neighborhood before canceling your current membership.

Read your bank statements and compile a list of recurring charges that aren’t worth keeping anymore. Fortunately, you can skip the phone call and cancel many of these subscriptions online.

Other recurring charges you should consider eliminating or pausing include credit monitoring services, in-flight Wi-Fi, food delivery, and television subscriptions.

Clean Kitchen Appliances

For how often you use the oven and refrigerator, it is often an overlooked chore to do before a move.

We recommend taking out all of the food, kitchenware, and removable parts beforehand in order to get a deep cleaning.

Avoid disinfectants like bleach. Instead, stick to using a microfiber cloth or sponge with dishwashing soap and warm water or gentle surface wipes.

Change Your Mailing Address

Changing your mailing address can become a real hassle if done at the last minute.

Make sure that all of your bills, subscriptions, and mailing lists are up-to-date with your new address. Contact your bank about ordering new checkbooks.

Also, notify your friends and family as early as possible to prevent any mailing or visitation mishaps.

Change your address online with USPS.

Update Your Driver’s License

Another important thing that you will need to update is your address on your driver’s license.

In Oregon, you must notify the DMV within 30 days of your move. In Washington state, you must do so within 10 days of your move. If you are moving to Oregon or Washington, you must transfer your out-of-state license within 30 days of your move.

Save yourself a trip to the DMV and change your address online.

Pack Overnight Boxes

Set aside a couple boxes a day prior to your move.

These boxes will include toiletries, clothes, bedding, shower towels, cleaning supplies, paper plates, plastic utensils, paper towels, toilet paper, and other essentials that you will need the night before moving day.
