How Many Movers Do I Need?
When you are moving, there are a lot of questions that you need to ask yourself and think about. Do I want to hire a moving company? Or more importantly do I need to? Can we move the piano on our own or should we not take the risk? These are just a few examples of the thought process that everybody goes through when it has become time to move. One question that is often overlooked, is how many movers do you actually need? This may seem like a pointless question and something your moving company will handle, which they will, but is something you should consider.
Most likely while you are looking for the right moving company, you will have a consultant come to your house to evaluate everything that needs to be moved, what is considered valuable or fragile, and to check if you have any hard to access stairs or rooms where stuff will need to be moved out of. Based on how much stuff you have or how far you are moving, can make a huge difference on how many movers the moving company thinks you may need. You may not think that if you have two movers instead of three or vice versa that it won’t make that much of a difference. If you have an heirloom piano that needs to be handled and moved with extreme caution, this may be ground to have the moving company secure three movers for your move. Or if you have a large home and have a lot of stuff from each room, the company will want to make sure all of your stuff gets moved quickly and efficiently and they wouldn’t be able to do that with just two movers. Now on the flip side, if you are moving from an apartment and don’t have overwhelming piles of stuff, you will probably only need two movers at the most.
One of the most important things to remember, is that when you are using a moving company you are being charged by the hour and how long the move takes. A common misconception is that if you have more movers, is that you are paying more. This is not the case. You will pay your flat hourly rate, and the company will have to pay more wages to their employees. It doesn’t cost you anything extra. Plus when you have more movers available to you, the job gets completed quicker and you will save money by them not being there all day. Be in constant communication with your movers. The more honest and open you are with them up front, the easier moving day will be. Don’t try to hide or downplay any furniture or tricky staircase scenarios you may have in your house. This can cause your bill to be higher in the end because you weren’t honest in the beginning. Not to mention if they don’t know what to expect coming into your move, it will take them longer to complete it and they might not have all the tools and supplies necessary to make sure everything is handled safely and securely.
Don’t overlook the question of how many movers you might need. You want your move to be quick and efficient and to make sure everything ends up where it needs to be. Your moving company will know the correct amount of movers that you need for your specific move and it is important to trust your consultant. They want your move to go just as smoothly as you want it to. Being in the know of these common questions is important when you are beginning the process of moving. Having all the right information will help you make the right decision in regards to your move!
